Know what to expect at your appointment for a Dental Implant Crown Seat
A quick overview of a Implant Crown Seat appointment at Heidi Sprowls DDS
There are two types of implant crowns:
Cement retained: Abutment is torqued into the implant and crown is then cemented over the abutment (Typical for anterior teeth).
Screw retained: Implant crown and abutment are one piece, we torque crown into implant, cover the screw, and place a filling over the access point. Benefits include no possibility of cement around the implant, never need to worry about cement loosening up, and ease of access if it were ever deemed necessary.
With both options no numbing is necessary, we remove healing abutment, we then place the abutment and/or crown in place, make any necessary adjustments, take an x-ray, if everything looks good we either cement a cement retained crown or we fill the screw retained crown.
Time expected for the appointment:
Seat one implant crown: 1 Hour
Seat two implant crowns: 1 1/2 Hours
Seat multiple Implant Crowns: Call office for a more accurate timeframe
What to expect after appointment:
Pressure along the gum line is normal, but should not be painful. This should pass within a day or less.
Things to let us know about:
Any pain with the implant, this is not normal.
Can’t floss the implant, you need to be able to floss around the implant, and is important to do so for the life of the implant.
